Usually, when someone is born in the middle or late in any decade, they will not remember it. Yes, they were born in 1976 but their earliest memories would begin when they are 3 or 4 years old... and these memories are vague and can be in accurate because they could also be childhood dreams that they thought was real.
So by the time the new decade begin they are 4 years old and cannt relate to the previous decade because their mind couldn't comprehend the pop culture at that tender age. A person born in 1976 would remember the entire 80s era, but from a child and teenage point of view, but knows nothing about the 70s een though they were born in it. And it's the same with everyone born into certain parts of a decade.
Someone who is born in an earlier part of a decade (like 1980, 81, 82) would remember the mid-80's vaguely, and the late 80's vividly (but from a child's perspective). And during the 80's, adults that were in their late 30s and over were complaining about how society is at an all time low, and if they thought the 80s was terrible... if they thought 1985 was bad, I wonder what they think of 2007? I'm sure the 80s doesn't look so bad to them now.
I'm not bitter about the "I Love the 70s, 80s, and 90s" VH1 programs... I was just pointing out that those shows are scripted and they are not reminiscing. They were reading lines off a monitor screen, and adlibing with some of their own words to make it seem like they are reminiscing past times. And usually they were looking back at these decades and making fun of it all, I hardly call that "reminiscing". Because they are afraid of looking "cheezy" to the viewers, so they more than likely mock and make fun of the previous decades than remember with fondness. Because you got to remember that some of the celebrities featured on those programs had some cultural impact on those decades, and many of them are embarrassed to have been apart of it because the fashion and everything about it has been played out and considered "cheezy" by today's standards. So we are at a point in time that we can't even admit that we like something from those decades for fear of being accused of "living in the past" and being called "corny" or "cheezy".
And unfortunately, that is what is going on with those reminiscent VH1 programs. Unknowingly to them, is that we all are living in this moment in time (2007) that in 10 to 20 years will be played out and considered "corny" to the newer generation of adults 30 years from now. And the children today are going to grow up to be adults reminiscing about "SpongeBob SquarePants" and other nonsense from this decade, and they too will be told that they are "cheezy", "corny", and that they are "living in the past". It's a never ending cycle, but the previous decades in the 20th Century should be respected and not looked at as "cheezy". Because as far as I'm concerned, this decade is culturely corrupted... so much so that it's now offensive to wish "Merry Christmas".
We have every right to put down the 2000s, because everywhere we go we see someone's cell phone glued to the side of their heads like cyborgs.
There was once a time when we had to use Pay Phones when we weren't at home. Now if someone calls you and you're not available to answer you have no excuses. The phone is like a new toy, and children are given cell phones nowadays. So children can play on the phone and crank call strangers freely, and use it in school so School Teachers and Staffs have more things to complain about. 20 years ago kids would get in trouble for bringing toys and handheld video games to school, but now it's cell phones, iPods,
MP3 Players, etc, etc. It's a mess. Everything is getting more and more portable and convenient, that it's spoiling our society.
Due to cell phones, those who are on a date can set their phones to ring in the middle of a dinner date, or have someone call them and instead of paying attention to their "date", he or she is on their cell phone while the date is sitting there waiting for them to finish chatting. They don't turn the phone off because they want the date to be interrupted with a phone call. There are lots of things wrong with this portable this and that era. Most of the time these folks on these cell phones are talking about nothing, you hear their loud conversations on buses, trains, stores, malls, everywhere.
It looks like a "phone counsiling session" of meaningless rambling, that's our society today and the foreseeable future.
